E-paper (or electronic paper) is a display technology designed to mimic the appearance of ink on ordinary paper. Unlike LCD or OLED screens that emit their own light, E-paper is reflective: it uses ambient light to make the content visible.

Technical Principles

The most common technology is the electrophoretic display:

  • Microcapsules: The screen contains millions of microcapsules filled with a transparent liquid.
  • Charged particles: Inside, there are white particles (positively charged) and black particles (negatively charged).
  • Electric field: By applying an electrical pulse, the particles move up or down to form text or images.

Key Features

  • Bistability: The screen only consumes power when changing the image. Once displayed, the image remains visible indefinitely without any power supply.
  • Visual comfort: Without direct backlighting or flickering, it significantly reduces eye strain.
  • Sunlight readability: The stronger the external light, the sharper the display, with no annoying reflections.
  • Limitation: The refresh rate is slow, making this technology unsuitable for video.

Common Applications

E-paper is primarily used for e-readers (such as the Kindle), electronic shelf labels (ESL) in retail, and urban or office signage

Widgets are automation tools integrated into SpinetiX solutions.

They allow for the display of dynamic content in real-time without programming, transforming raw data sources into impactful visuals.

  • Data automation: They instantly synchronize screens with external sources such as calendars (Outlook/Google),
spreadsheets (Excel), JSON feeds, RSS, weather, or social media via API.

  • Interactive and business content: Our range includes widgets for touch screens,
Power BI dashboards for internal communication, and digital menu board display tools..
